Heritage Days

Saturday, June 29 & Sunday, June 30, 2024, 12 p.m. – 4 p.m.

Each year, Heritage Montgomery hosts Heritage Days on the last weekend of June. Sponsored by HM since 2004, this FREE festival highlights historic, cultural, and outdoor recreation sites offering special programs including exhibits and demonstrations, live music, activities for children, and much more!  Heritage Days is the perfect chance to enjoy many small sites that are not regularly open to the public.

This year marks the 25th annual Heritage Days weekend – a countywide festival offering programs, activities, and tours appealing to visitors of all ages and interests and will take place June 29 & 30.

In addition to Civil War and agricultural history, the stories of local railroads and trolleys, African American communities, life along the C&O Canal, astronomy, and much more are featured.

Heritage Days also highlights local arts & culture as well as outdoor recreation, including biking, hiking, and walking tours.  Many venues offer musical entertainment, activities and crafts for children, and refreshments.

Latvian Museum

Saturday, June 29, 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. and Sunday, June 30, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Exhibits will include Latvian ceramics, jewelry, and textiles. See the church’s custom stained-glass windows, attend a demonstration of mitten knitting, take a living history tour, try your hand at dyeing eggs in the Latvian manner with natural plant dye, and taste Latvian cheese (Jāņu siers). Saturday only: The Museum opens at 10 a.m. 1:30 p.m. book talk and signing by Michaele Weissman of her book The Rye Bread Marriage. 2 p.m.– Performance by folk ensemble Sudrabavots. Sunday only: The Museum opens at 11:00 a.m. 2:/2:30 p.m. – The folk dance troupe Namejs performs. Free.
