Heritage Montgomery recently welcomed nearly 60 Montgomery County Public Schools teachers for a special tour focused on the county’s rich African American history. Educators representing grades 4 through high school visited Emory Grove and Pleasant View Historic Site, where they explored local history, preservation efforts, and opportunities to connect students with community-based projects.

The day concluded with a lively panel discussion and Q&A about preserving historic places, planning for their future, and engaging students in local history. Special thanks to Rev. Green from Pleasantview, Rev. Warner of Emory Grove, and Sandi Williams from Sandy Spring Slave Museum for sharing their experiences and insights with the group. The program was designed to deepen teachers’ understanding of local history while strengthening partnerships between Heritage Montgomery, historic sites, and MCPS.
