Heritage Montgomery announces $457,580 in heritage project grant awards

Heritage Montgomery is pleased to announce $457,580 in grant funding from the Maryland Heritage Areas Authority for county partners. Heritage Montgomery, one of thirteen certified heritage areas in the state of Maryland, facilitates the work of cultural, natural, and historical partners within its borders.

Grants were awarded to the following partner organizations:

  • National Capital Trolley Museum for the rehabilitation of DC Trolley CTCo #1430
  • Nepal Education and Cultural Center for the restoration and preservation of their historic building and barn
  • Sugarland Ethno-History Project, Inc. for the restoration of the St. Paul Community Church and Museum
  • The Germantown Historical Society, Inc. for the rehabilitation of the 1922 Germantown Bank

Heritage Montgomery is also a participant in a multi-heritage area grant awarded to the Calvert Marine Museum Society, Inc. for an in-depth history of the Patuxent River, which borders Montgomery County.

Heritage Montgomery provides approximately $376.1 million in economic impact to Montgomery County each year, supports 5,327 jobs, and contributed $50.4 million in state and local tax revenue.

The heritage area fosters public-private partnerships to preserve and enhance Montgomery County’s historic sites and towns, unspoiled natural landscapes, diverse histories, and enduring traditions.
