Conservation Cafe Lecture

January 10, 2019 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

$15

Join the Audubon Naturalist Society for their January 2019 Conservation Cafe to hear Dr. Sujay Kaushal, Associate Professor of Biogeochemistry, University of Maryland College Park. He will speak about road salt:

  • why we use so much of it
  • what it does to streams (hint: it causes a nasty phenomemom called “Freshwater salinization syndrome”)
  • how salt in the environment is not just table salt–it’s got heavy metals and nutrients mixed in in novel chemical cocktails that are bad for human health and other living things

Learn about why road salt is important, but also about its significant and harmful side effects. We will cap the evening with Director of Conservation Eliza Cava discussing some of the efforts in the region to use less of it.

All winter 2018-2019 events are at Woodend Nature Sanctuary, from 7-8:30 pm.
