Join Heritage Montgomery: We’re hiring an Outreach Coordinator

Heritage Montgomery (HM), a state and county supported nonprofit, seeks a part-time Outreach Coordinator to work 10 hours a week in a mostly virtual setting. Heritage Montgomery is one of 13 State-certified heritage areas overseen by the Maryland Historical Trust. Our organization represents over 40 county parks, museums, and sites highlighting Montgomery County’s history, culture, and natural resources.

This position supports the agency’s mission of preserving and promoting local history, culture, and distinctive natural areas and fostering a sense of stewardship and pride in our community.

Heritage Montgomery provides leadership to our partner sites including technical support, State and county capital and project grants, a Mini-Grant program, and an annual Heritage Days weekend event.

Job Description

As part of the Heritage Montgomery team, you will put your communications talents to work to support Montgomery County’s heritage and cultural institutions. You will help spread the word about the important work Heritage Montgomery is doing, as well as help to promote our many partner organizations. Under the supervision of the Assistant Director, the candidate will

  • Compile email blast content on a regular monthly schedule
  • Develop content for website and social media
  • Update website on a regular schedule
  • Maintain photo database
  • Manage social media accounts
  • Manage brochure inventory and distribution
  • Represent HM at events, man tables, provide information to community groups
  • Fulfill gift shop orders
  • Assist the Director and Assistant Director with event planning and other administrative tasks

Required Job Skills

  • Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Detail oriented
  • Knowledge and use of professional office standards
  • Excellent knowledge of Macintosh computers and Microsoft Word
  • Ability to multi-task, self-direct, and work well in a seasonally fast-paced environment
  • Ability to lift 30 lbs., climb stairs, and visit indoor and outdoor sites
  • Professional and friendly demeanor
  • Ability to work occasional weekends and evenings
  • Willingness and ability to learn new skills

Desired Job Skills

  • Working knowledge of Excel, Powerpoint, Gmail, WordPress, Constant Contact, and Facebook
  • Interest in history, culture, and/or nature
  • Interest in parks, museums, and programs
  • Interest in marketing, fundraising, social media, and public outreach
  • Background working in museums or some level of undergraduate coursework

Pay is $20 an hour. While most work can be performed at home, the candidate must live in Montgomery County — or no more than 45 minutes away — and have reliable transportation, as attending events and visiting partners are required parts of the job.
