Heritage Montgomery is proud to announce it has been awarded a $10,000 SHINE (Strengthening the Humanities Investment in Nonprofits for Equity) grant from Maryland Humanities. This vital funding will support Heritage Montgomery’s mission to preserve and promote the rich history, culture, and natural landscapes of Montgomery County, while fostering stewardship and pride among residents and visitors.
The SHINE grant enables Heritage Montgomery to continue its work with more than 400 heritage area partners – including Montgomery Parks, Maryland State Parks, National Parks, and independent museums – by enhancing storytelling and programming that deepens understanding of the region’s diverse experiences, especially those of the historically underserved.
“This support is a powerful investment in our shared history,” said Sarah Rogers, Executive Director of Heritage Montgomery. “It will help us amplify voices and stories that reflect the full depth of Montgomery County’s heritage.”
As a Certified Heritage Area within the Maryland Heritage Areas Program, Heritage Montgomery believes that engaging with local history is a fundamentally humanities-driven goal that builds stronger, more inclusive communities.
